Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Merry_ChristmasFirst off, I apologize for the lack of content lately. This fall has been an incredibly busy time for Sweet Careers and for me personally. But I am hoping to get into a more regular publishing schedule again, soon.

Thank-you!!
I also want to say a big thank you to all of the amazing students and young professionals I’ve had the pleasure of assisting these past few months. You’ve all been working so hard and I am so proud of all of you! Keep up the good work, and know I’m here if you need any help along the way.

A huge thanks has to be given to my amazing family and friends. As many of you know, I lost my dad at the start of September, and it’s been challenging, but I appreciate all your prayers and love. All I can say is, the Lord has been exceedingly faithful!

(Re-)Connecting
As we head into 2015, I would love to hear from ALL of you! Let me know what kind of content you would like to see on our blog, on our Facebook page, and on our Twitter feed. Many of you tend to reach out to me directly via email, which is fine, (especially for those of you who are job searching on the DL!), but if you’ve never connected with me, how would you prefer to connect? Twitter, LinkedIn, Viber? I’m pretty open, so let me know.

New services
Some of you have asked about new or additional services. In particular, there’s been increasing interest in the idea of hiring me on a “retainer” basis. For now, I’ve only made this available on a small scale. The basic idea is that you would be able hire me for 6, 9, or 12-month periods, giving you access to me as your personal career consultant for that period of time. Should I open this option for more people? Would you find it useful? We have a standard set of services, but are there other new services you’d like me to offer? How can I help YOU in 2015?

Merry Christmas, everyone! Here’s to an outstanding 2015!! Be safe!

Feeling Hopeless

help-depressionThe holiday season can be a wonderful, joyous time for many. However, it can also leave people feeling overwhelmed, sad, exhausted, and lonely. If you’re feeling hopeless or depressed this holiday season, or any time of the year, please reach out. If you don’t have family or friends that you can contact, many university campuses have emergency/crisis hotlines available, and there are services in your community that can help, too.

If you are in the Fox Cities, here are some numbers you can call for help:

Outagamie County Crisis Intervention: (920) 832-4646
Winnebago County Crisis Intervention: (920) 233-7707 or (920) 722-7707
Calumet County Crisis Intervention: (920) 849-9317
Waupaca County Crisis Line: (715) 258-6304 or (800) 472-3377

Nationally, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: (800) 273-TALK or (800) 273-8255

You matter to me. I care about you.

God bless.

10 New Year’s Resolutions You Can Keep

newyearEvery year, hundreds of New Year’s resolutions fall by the wayside, completely forgotten or discarded for being unrealistic. This year, we’ve got 10 resolutions that we know you can keep, and can have fun while you’re at it.

  1. Take a walk with friends – without your phone
  2. Try out a new leadership role on campus or in your workplace
  3. Make a decision to only post comments online or by text that you’d be comfortable saying in person
  4. Set up or update your LinkedIn account, making sure to include your amazing accomplishments from last year
  5. Take a class outside of your major
  6. Volunteer in your community
  7. Update your computer’s antivirus – before a crisis occurs
  8. Write a hand-written letter and send it snail mail
  9. Brush up on your world geography
  10. Take the time to get to know at least two new people who come from completely different backgrounds than your own

More than anything else, be yourself, have fun and have a great 2014!
