By admin, on September 26th, 2012 In our last tip, we encouraged using your faculty’s office hours. Let’s keep with the theme of using the resources at your finger tips. With a little bit of research, you’ll likely find a LOT of very helpful resources on campus, and best of all – they’re probably FREE! Resources vary from campus to campus, so ask around at your institution. Here’s a sampling of the types of services that are likely available for you:
- Your recreation/wellness center probably gives you free, or low-cost, access to fitness equipment, the pool, and a variety of wellness classes.

The field of healthcare is growing by leaps and bounds, and the healthcare industry is estimated to contribute around six million new jobs to the workforce over the next decade. This represents a nearly 30 percent growth in jobs from the healthcare field alone. There are many different career paths that a student can take, whether your interest ultimately lies in healthcare administration jobs, healthcare management jobs, or some other facet of the medical and healthcare field. A great place to start can be earning a healthcare administration or healthcare management degree online or offline, which can prepare you to climb to the heights of your chosen career path, regardless of where you may choose to specialize or focus your efforts once you graduate.
However, because some terminology used in healthcare can sound surprisingly similar, including terms such as “administration” and “management,” it can be helpful as well to learn before you enroll in an advanced degree program what the differences are between these terms so you are sure you focus your education towards the correct area.
The Role of Education
Education is one of the major differences between the fields of healthcare management and healthcare administration. Healthcare management professionals are most likely to have an educational background that matches their career, whether that may be management of medical staff, informatics and information technology, oncology research studies, or another area. Healthcare administration professionals, on the other hand, are likely to start out in a more business-related field with an advanced degree to match, such as finance, business management, accounting, marketing, or operations. This also speaks directly to the difference in job description between healthcare managers and administrators.

By admin, on September 18th, 2012 We’re definitely not a tech site, but we do love to share any tips, tricks or resources that might make your life as a college student or young professional any easier. Today, we wanted to share a nifty task management website with all of you: Todoist .
What is it?
Todoist is a web-based task or project management system. It helps you stay organized, and because it’s cloud-based, you can keep on top of your tasks where ever you go.
Why we like it.
We tried out a number of different task managers, including Remember the Milk, Google Tasks, Producteev, Outlook tasks, iCloud Reminders and a few others. All of the other task managers we tried had some great features, and one of them may be exactly what you’re looking for, but Todoist gets our nod for a few key reasons, ones we think college students and young professionals will also find appealing:
- It’s cloud-based, but it still works when you don’t have wifi. If you are using an iOS mobile device, the Todoist app has offline support. (Otherwise, you can still use Todoist offline, as long as you sync first before you go offline.) So, whether you’re in class, in your res. hall, on the bus, at work or walking around campus, you still have access to your tasks and projects.
- There are plugins for Chrome, Firefox, and Outlook, and a handy bookmarklet that can be installed on most any browser. This makes updating and adding new tasks really easy.
- Gmail integration. This was a major factor in our decision to use Todoist! Since so many of our tasks come in the form of emails, we love the ability to create a task from an email. Later, when we return to the task, the link opens up the original email. Google Tasks does this too, (and integrates more seamlessly), but Todoist also integrates with Outlook, if you happen to use that email client. If you’re interning, working full time, or in any situation where you are receiving a number of action items via email, this feature can be especially helpful. Of course, it assumes that you are using either Gmail or Outlook.
- Project management. Say you’re working on a major project, like a term paper. Todoist allows you to set up projects with numerous tasks and sub-tasks under each. You’re able to set up deadlines and due dates, as well as add labels (which act like tags).
The paid version adds a bit more functionality, such as allowing notes for tasks, productivity tracking and an improved labeling system. At just $29 a year, it’s quite affordable to upgrade.

Do you love your job? Or is it simply something to pay the bills? According to Robin Ryan, career consultant and author of “What to Do With the Rest of Your Life,” over 30 million people in the United States daily attend a job that they hate.
Ryan suggests that these negative feelings towards their jobs make their way into daily life and effect their relationships, social lives and over all satisfaction with their life. Does this describe you? If so, it may be time to change careers and pursue a higher education.
It has become commonly accepted knowledge that the average person will change careers seven to eight times during the course of their lives. Many of these changes are due to job dissatisfaction, which is repeated in their new job. Ryan suggests making your next career change a dramatic one – one that will provide you with a meaningful job that will add significant value to your life.
How Can An Online Degree Change My Life?
Online degrees offer the opportunity for students to pursue higher education while maintaining the responsibilities and duties of daily life. It becomes possible for a dissatisfied employee to create a strategy that helps them safely transition into a new, satisfying career.
What does life-changing really mean? The exact definition is entirely up to you. For some, it may mean earning a more lucrative salary. For others, it may mean helping other people. If you are one of the 30 million Americans that hate their job, it can be assumed that “life-changing” means transitioning to a career that earns both a livable wage and job satisfaction.
