By admin, on December 17th, 2010 Once you know that you want to intern and have determined when you hope to intern, your next major step will be to develop a list of potential internship sites. But where do you find internship opportunities? There are numerous resources available to identify internships – sometimes, too many. I suggest sticking with fewer resource, at least initially, to avoid getting overwhelmed.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Your campus career center will likely have internship books, like Vault Top Internships or the Career Education Institutes’ series of books, including “Washington Internships in Law and Policy,” “Big Green Internship Book,” “Internships with Community and Social Service Agencies,” and “The Museum Internship Book.” Many of these books are republished every year or every other year.

ATTITUDE is critical to carrying you through tough times, whether it is health issues, financial issues, problems with a home, maybe a car, or even, your JOB SEARCH. If you do not have a good ATTITUDE almost nothing else matters.
Now I know that sometimes it is tough having or keeping a good ATTITUDE. It takes a lot of faith in what you are doing. What I do when I need an ATTITUDE check is go into survivor mode. What I mean by that is I think of what I have been through before and how I got through it. I ask myself “what did I do to get through this”? I also think about what I learned from previous experiences and try to apply them to the current issues that are working on my ATTITUDE. I have self-inflicted a lot on myself, and family, but we have always come through and always have come out the better. The next issue that comes up usually doesn’t seem as dramatic because I believe in the Marine saying “that that does not kill you makes you stronger”. Now who can argue with a Marine?

Should You Send a Cover Letter with Your Resume?
Are cover letters useful anymore? There are a variety of opinions throughout the internet. One of the most compelling comments came from Edith Reese, an Insurance and Risk Management Professional and Attorney, saying that “There are blogger’s with HR backgrounds who state that a cover letter is outdated, but the comments on this site (LinkedIn poll page) from HR professionals indicate otherwise. For a variety of the following reasons listed here (distinguishing yourself from the other candidates, showing the company how you add value, showing interest in the position, creating a connection with the hiring manager, etc.) a well written cover letter remains an important element of the job hunter’s arsenal.
After exhaustive discussions with over 240 job seekers, many of them from the professional networking website Linkedin.com, and posting a poll on LinkedIn with the following title, “Do You Use a Cover Letter in Your Job Search”, I found some pretty interesting and relevant responses to the poll question.

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” Dr.

I often think, why bother unless you strive to be the best. I’d like to think that the vast majority of us set out to do the best we can. Now some of us may procrastinate or may put in a really good effort to a point, but most of us want to simply be the best. As I mentioned in a previous post, there are “best lists” for everything and Job Search is no exception. So today I plan to post a number of “Best” links so that you too can strive to be the best.
