Quick Tips: Info interviews in familiar territory

  • If info interviews are intimidating, try interviewing professionals at your university. Universities employ professionals in public relations, human resources, and IT, as well as accountants, nurses, artists, curators, and other occupations.
  • Once you’re comfortable with info interviewing on your campus, branch out to interview professionals in your industry of choice.



Using Twitter for Job Search and Networking: Video Tutorial for College Students and Recent Grads

If you’re new to Twitter or aren’t quite sure if you even want to create a Twitter account, you aren’t alone. Although Twitter is definitely growing, it’s not anywhere close to Facebook and MySpace. And Facebook is still, and will likely continue to be, the favourite social networking site among college students and recent grads.

However, when it comes to job searching and professional networking, Twitter is an absolutely invaluable tool. Unfortunately, whenever I mention this to job seekers who are unfamiliar with Twitter, their eyes usually glaze over and a look resembling fear and dread usually emerges. That’s why I decided to create this post. There are numerous wonderful articles already written that explain the usefulness of Twitter (I’ve linked some of these articles at the end of this post, and will continue to add to this list). So, I decided to take this post in a slightly different direction. I want to show you some Twitter basics and describe how you can figure out whom to follow if you hope to successfully use Twitter for networking and job search purposes. For my readers in NE Wisconsin and the Fox Valley – job postings on Twitter

For my readers in the Fox Valley, since I run into a number of job postings as I work with my students, I thought it might be useful if I started posting some of the positions that I find. I post the positions via my Twitter account.
