By admin, on October 1st, 2009 On September 26, 2008, Typhoon Ketsana, known in the Philippines as Ondoy, ravaged southeast Asia, leaving hundreds dead and many more homeless.
Sweet Careers already offers free resume/cover letter reviews for current college students and recent graduates. For the rest of October, Sweet Careers will be offering free resume or cover letter reviews to EVERYONE to aid in the relief efforts in the Philippines.
Here’s how it will work:
- To receive a free review of your resume or cover letter, donate any amount to the Philippine National Red Cross. Your donation will be in Pesos – (here’s a calculator to convert USD to PHP). To receive a free review of both your resume and cover letter, donate more than P1200 (approximately $25.00USD).
- In the comments section of this post, or on the Sweet Careers fanpage wall, let me know the amount you donated in pesos – this will help me keep a running total.
- E-mail your resume and/or cover letter to me at sweetcareers.consulting@gmail.com in either Word or PDF format. If you have a specific position to which you are applying, a link in your e-mail to the job description would be helpful. If you do not have a specific position in mind, please tell me what type of position or industry you will be applying for.
- In your e-mail, also indicate the username you used to make the comment on this page and the amount you donated so I can match you with your comment.
- I’ll review your resume or cover letter in a brief video response (videos are password protected to ensure your privacy).
- For college students or recent grads – if you would like your resume/cover letter to be reviewed, I will still provide a review even without a donation. However, feel free to donate and leave a comment on this post.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please DO NOT send any money to me.
While I cannot foresee how much assistance this service will generate for the relief efforts in the Philippines, I know that ANY amount of aid will help. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed the Philippine National Red Cross. Of course, prayers are always desired for all those who have lost family members and homes in this disaster.

When leaving an employer it is best to make a graceful exit, no matter how much you dislike your supervisor, peers or the company. Doing so is best for your reputation in the long term and you never know who you might cross paths with in the future. Here are a few things to keep in mind when quitting your job: Continue reading Resign professionally and gracefully »
By admin, on April 21st, 2009 This post is about being kind – in the workplace, and in life. Yes, I know, it sounds a bit old fashioned, maybe a bit backward. Some will say, “Grace, that just doesn’t work in the real world.” I mentioned this topic to a colleague and his response was, “Nobody gets ahead by being nice and kind. Are you sure you want to write about that?” Yes, actually, I DO want to write about this topic. More than ever. It seems like everywhere I look, I see people saying things and doing things that are mean – in the name of “getting ahead.”
So, I’m going to go ahead and write, albeit briefly, about being kind. However, I also realize that this post will likely not be shared or tweeted nearly as far and wide as other posts. That’s ok. These simple things still need to be stated.
So, here are a few thoughts about kindness. Continue reading There’s still room for a little kindness »
By admin, on January 27th, 2009 Is it still ok to be humble? In a professional world that appears to reward self-promotion, how and where does humility fit in?
I don’t know that I have a fully articulated response to this question, but my gut instinct is that, YES, it’s still ok to be humble and succeed in the professional world.
What do you think? Is humility just for the weak? What does it mean to be humble? How do you get ahead and still remain humble?
