We’re Wearing Purple for Phoenix

We’re wearing purple here at Sweet Careers Consulting in honor of a brave, fearless little girl, Phoenix Ryland Laxamana Del Rosario (Grace’s niece), who fought cancer for almost half of her young life. On October 12, 2012 at 4 a.m., this world lost this shining star, and the Lord’s courts welcomed home a brave warrior. Nenix would have turned 5 in December.

To learn more about this amazing little girl, you can read her story at Love for Phoenix. You can also see her story played out in pictures by following @Papa_Danger on Instagram.

We want to show our love for Nenix and tell her parents how much they are loved. Purple was Nenix’s favorite color. Before she left this world, she requested that we all paint our nails purple – she liked to be matchy matchy =). If you are so inclined, please paint your nails purple for Nenix. If you do, post a photo on Twitter or Instagram with the tag #NailsforNenix.

Nenix, you are forever in our hearts. We love you.

UPDATE: It’s a boy!

Thank you all for your well wishes while I was on hospitalized bed rest. Though there was certainly much concern about preterm labor, the bed rest was effective! Baby Kutney arrived, full term, on April 26, weighing just under 8lbs at a length of 19in. My husband, my three year-old and I are just so blessed that baby is here safely and that we are both finally home.

As you might imagine, I am not able to update this site or my Twitter feed much at this time, but will return as soon as possible. Thank you all for your patience.

Free resume review service update

Due to health concerns related to my pregnancy, I have had to be hospitalized. As a result, I am unable to continue the resume and cover letter review service at this time. I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience that this causes any of you. Please know that I hope to eventually have the free service up and running at full capacity, with the addition of more services, later in 2010.

An important update: Good and Bad news

If you read this blog on a regular basis, you know that I rarely break from the topic of career to share anything personal with you. Today, however, I thought it pertinent to share some important news that will impact my readers.

First, the good news: I am expecting! At the time of this post, I am 23 weeks pregnant. My husband, my three year old and I are VERY excited about the newest addition to our family.

The not-so-good news: I was just advised by my doctor that, due to medical necessity, and to ensure my safety and the safety of my baby, I need to “slow down.” I may be placed on complete bedrest at some point, but for now, I’ve been told to get more rest. “Resting” is generally not in my vocabulary, so this will be a challenge. However, my doctor has made it clear that continuing at the pace I am used to may result in preterm labour, or worse, so, it is a challenge I will most certainly accept.

Impact for my readers: I do not yet know what the full impact will be for this site, my Twitter feed, Sweet Careers on Facebook, etc. but I suspect posts will slow down significantly for the remainder of the pregnancy and for the first few months to follow. I may also have to cease the free resume/cover letter service for a little while, but I will make a decision on that at a later date.

My fellow career professionals: I would welcome additional guest posts with a focus on career and job advice for college students and recent grads.

Thank you all for supporting this site and being such an inspiration to me. I also truly appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
