“And the winner is . . .”. How many times have you heard those words? Better yet, how many times have you heard them followed by your name? It’s great to be the winner, “the best”. Not all of us are destined to be “the winner”, but being the best does not mean that you always need to be in first place. Inspiration drives the best in most people, and the companies listed today are all about providing the best environment to work in.

  • Mayo Clinic – Ranked at 55 on the list, the Mayo Clinic is the largest integrated non-profit group practice in the world. They have almost 42,000 employees and added 36 jobs last year. The main careers page leads with Jobs (by location) at the top, followed by information about the company. You can follow Mayo Clinic jobs on Twitter and you can register on the site and upload you resume. There is no way to look for all jobs available unless you register, so you will need to select the location of your choice to search for jobs. For each location, the job search page has additional resources, such as preparing for your interview.

  • Paychex – Paychex provides Payroll and HR services and is ranked 54 on this year’s list. Based in Rochester, NY, they have over 12,000 employees and added 221 new jobs last year. Their careers page has a brief overview, followed by two search categories (Job Opportunities or Additional Sales Opportunities). There is a section for “Find out more” for benefits, interviewing and recruiting events. offers a number of choices – Sales, All Other Jobs, Register and Apply now. There were 297 job opportunities when I checked the site.
  • Nordstrom – Ranked at 53, this high end retailer has over 45,000 employees but lost over 2,100 jobs last year. Their main career page has tabs at the top for “working at Nordstroms” and “Search Current job Openings”, both of which have related sub-menus. You can search jobs by a number of categories (Retail, Support, etc.). With Career Path you can create your own path. From quick search you can set your own criteria. There were over 1,500 job opportunities when I checked the site.
  • Booz Allen Hamilton – This consulting company is ranked 52 and is also on the best IT companies to work for. They have 21,000 employees and added more than 2,300 jobs last year. Their careers page has links on the left hand side of the page for Search, Featured Opportunities, Student Center and links to post your resume and profile. Center page is all about Booz Allen with career related links on the right hand side of the page. There were 980 job opportunities when I checked the site.
  • Microsoft – Ranked 51 on the list with over 90,000 employees worldwide, I think we’ve all heard of this company. In addition to being on this list, Microsoft is also at the top of Fortune’s most profitable list and is based in Redmond Washington. The Careers page has been streamlined and follows the “minimalist’s view”. Job search is at the top of the page, enter keyword, job category and location to start. There is a link for students and graduates below the search engine and you can select your country of choice from the center of the page. You can register, search jobs, submit your resume and create a job agent.
